Yard Act album launch show for 'You're Gonna Need A Little Music' at CHALK.
Yard Act are playing CHALK on Friday 24 July, and it's a specific kind of night: they're billing it as the album launch for You're Gonna Need A Little Music, their third studio album. If you've been following them, that's the new record they'll be working through, and since it's the launch show, it's the first time these songs are being played out in full.
For those who know them, the Leeds quartet are best known for their lyrics — sharp, quick-witted, and often leaning into the observational. That's a good place to start, because it's the part of their writing that usually sticks. Around that, they've built a sound that doesn't stay in one place for long, an inventive approach to indie rock that keeps shifting rather than settling into a single groove. It's a band that changes its mind as it goes, and this new album is the latest version of that.
Coming from Leeds, they've spent the last few years moving through different iterations of their sound, and You're Gonna Need A Little Music is the third record they've put out. This show is the first time the new material gets its own night, so the set will be built around these songs rather than tucked into a tour of the older stuff. It's the album launch, so the focus is right where the new record sits.
