Alternative music and comedy night featuring Laura Fell, Joz Norris and The Highchurches at The Folklore Rooms.
This Machine Kills Wasps is back at The Folklore Rooms on Saturday 26 September, with Joz Norris and Laura Fell taking the lead. It's one of the few nights in Brighton that puts music, musical comedy and stand-up on the same bill, and this one does exactly that: Laura Fell brings the music, Joz Norris brings the comedy, and The Highchurches round out the line-up.
If you've never come across it, the night is run by James of Walsh and usually happens about four times a year at The Folklore Rooms, which sits above The Quadrant pub. Leslie Bloom is the regular host, though Paggy, Laurie Black and James of Walsh have stepped in to run things before. The bill changes every time, and the range of acts that have passed through is pretty broad. On the music side, there's been Professor Elemental, Jo Burke, Jason Pegg, The Coal Porters, The Roebucks and Queen Mab. The comedy side has seen Blank Peng, Sharlin Jahan, Mikey Bligh-Smith, Rob Duncan and Jen Zheng.

This is the first of two dates in the 2026 season. The second is a Festive Special on Thursday 3 December, headlined by Hibbett & Christopher. So if you're after a night that doesn't stick to one lane, this is a good place to start. It's on Saturday 26 September at The Folklore Rooms, above The Quadrant pub in Brighton.
