The Secrets of the Sash: the history of a traditional window

The Regency Town House is hosting The Secrets of the Sash on Sunday 20 September, a session on the history of the sash window and how to maintain them. It's run by the house itself, a five-storey Grade I listed 1820s terrace at 13 Brunswick Square, which is currently being restored as a heritage centre and museum for Brighton & Hove. The house stands in what's described as perhaps the finest early 19th-century 'New Town' in England, laid out in the 1820s by the architect Charles Augustin Busby.

The talk forms part of Heritage Open Days 2026, the city's programme of open houses and heritage tours. It sits alongside the museum's other short courses on Georgian and Victorian building conservation, which cover things like historic glass manufacturing, paint history and lime plasters. The session is signed off by curator Nick Tyson.

It's aimed at students of historic buildings, architectural students, owners of period homes and construction professionals.
