The Secret Comedy Club's open mic, better known as See You Next Tuesday, is back at Artista on Tuesday 8 September. It's Brighton's longest-running and most popular comedy open mic, and it holds its own as the leading new-material night on the South Coast. The venue is Artista Cafe and Gallery, 42 Brighton Square, which is described as Brighton's best small comedy club and once took the audience choice award for best Fringe venue.
It's an independent room that welcomes professional, semi-professional and amateur comics alike, and the pace is kept deliberately fast: up to 15 comedians each get a five-minute slot to test their latest jokes. Because it's a new-material night, you're hearing things for the first time, and TV comics and top names occasionally drop by to try out new bits. The night also works as a scouting ground, with the club picking acts for its weekend gigs and for shows like the Brighton Fringe Festival.
If you're performing, you have to book in beforehand rather than turning up on the night, and you can buy video and audio of your set for £5. For everyone else, it's a chance to see a wide range of comics in one go, from the newcomers to the established names passing through.
