Contemporary circus show A Glimmer Daze Gambit by The Revel Puck Circus, featuring mime, clowning and acrobatics, suitable for families and first-time circus-goers.
The Revel Puck Circus are setting up in Victoria Gardens this August, bringing A Glimmer Daze Gambit to the Big Top for a two-week run from Thursday 27 August to Sunday 6 September. It's their first-ever large-scale touring season, and the show is built around non-verbal storytelling — mime, clowning and acrobatics rather than a script — so it's aimed squarely at families and first-time circus-goers.
The story follows Stella and Kit, who've finally arrived at their dream home — a circus — and have to imagine what they might need to join the troupe. Along the way they discover that failing is how you learn and that community is forged in mistakes. The show is a parade of skills: teeterboard, aerial cradle, straps, cloud swing, bounce juggling, Icarian and group acrobatics. There's also the Revel Puck original, the Rola Globe — a giant globe topped with a square platform on which nine performers balance together.
Behind it is a cast of grassroots London-based and international circus artists from Argentina, the USA, Ethiopia and Canada. The company itself is based in East London and describes its work as contemporary circus for everyone, everywhere. The performances are semi-relaxed, with step-free access, and include haze, loud music, occasional loud bangs and flashing lights, though no strobe.
