The Original Five bring bluegrass, country and folk music from southern Sweden to The Brunswick.
The Original Five play The Brunswick on Sunday 6 September, bringing their blend of bluegrass, country, Americana and folk to Brighton from the south of Sweden. It's a long way to come for a pub gig, but they've been on the road for a while.
They started back in 2010 as a jam session at Far I Hatten in Folkets Park, Malmö, and since then they've taken their music to festivals and gigs across Europe and over to the USA. They've put out five studio albums and plenty of collaborations, including a live record with a Swiss chamber orchestra. On stage, they mix traditional bluegrass with their own material, well-known country songs and forays into folk and gospel.
Bluegrass Unlimited described their sound as "seasoned... with flavourful country, hillbilly and Western Swing influences" and made a point of their original material, so you'll get the standards alongside things they've written themselves. The set pulls from those different threads — bluegrass, country, folk and gospel — rather than sticking to one.
