An evening with Japanese academic Dr Takeo Higuchi, who has trained himself to generate 50 ideas a day.
Dr Takeo Higuchi is coming to The Nightingale Room on Monday 28 September, presented by The Odditorium. He's a Japanese academic who describes himself as a maverick, and the whole thing centres on a creative experiment he started back in 1984: training himself to come up with 50 ideas every single day.
Forty-two years on, that daily habit has turned into a mountain of a record. He's written down more than 650,000 ideas across 580 notebooks, worn through more than 1,200 biros, and built two enormous walls of thoughts, passions, plans and obsessions. He's now working his way towards a million.
It's a strange, specific kind of discipline to see played out over four decades. The evening is an introduction to that process and the sheer volume of what comes out of it. If you've ever wondered what happens when you treat creativity as a daily exercise rather than a bolt of inspiration, this is a good place to start.
