The Land Beyond festival

The Land Beyond is coming to East Brighton Park over the late May bank holiday weekend in 2028, and it's got a drinks licence to go with it. The festival runs from Friday to Monday, with the gates open from 11am to 10.30pm each day, so it's a proper long weekend rather than just a one-off afternoon. It's not just music, either: the licence covers live and recorded music, film screenings and dance performances, all spread across the bank holiday.

There's a bit of a shift in who can come when you look at the days. The main stage on the Friday and the bank holiday Monday is open to anyone aged 14 and over, so those are the days you can bring younger ones along. Saturday and Sunday are a different story — the festival runs several stages then, and they're strictly over-18s. If you're planning a full weekend, keep that in mind.

Capacity is capped at 9,999, with around 4,000 expected on the Friday and Monday and up to 8,000 on the Saturday. The festival is run by Festivals Group Limited, a Brighton company owned by Alexander Isles, 35, and Paris O'Connell, 34. They'd originally planned to stage an event sooner, but they've now set their sights on 2028. The premises licence was granted after a council panel hearing on 15 September.

It wasn't all smooth sailing, though. Ross Sully, a Kemp Town resident of 20 years, spoke against the bid, telling the panel that a growing number of events in the area have been linked to anti-social behaviour and have changed the neighbourhood's village feel into something more like a crowded city. The festival sits in East Brighton Park, off Wilson Avenue, so it's right on the edge of the residential bits of the east end. If you're heading down, the site is open 11am to 10.30pm from Friday through to Monday.
