The House and Garage Orchestra bring Garage Classics to Chalk on Sunday 30 May, a night dedicated to the UK house and garage sounds that defined the turn of the millennium. It's a live show built around those records, with the orchestra taking on the role of a full band rather than a backing act.
The core of the sound comes from the expanded live band, which adds horns and strings to the mix. Those sections are there to bring back the brassy, melodic lines and the sweeping strings that characterised the era's house and garage hits, so you're hearing the arrangements played out by a live ensemble rather than triggered from a laptop. It's that orchestral layer that gives the whole thing its name.
There's more to it than just the band, though. Throughout the tour, many of the vocalists who originally recorded those genre-defining hits join the orchestra on stage to perform them live.
