The Comedy Experiment

The Comedy Experiment is back at the Caroline of Brunswick in Brighton, running three times a month from 29 August 2026 through to 19 August 2028. It's an afternoon comedy show, which is a bit of a rarity in a city where most stand-up kicks off after dark, so it's one for when you'd rather be home by tea than out until midnight.

The format is built around two things: newer, up-and-coming acts and professional comedians road-testing new material. That second bit is where the real draw is — you're seeing established names work through fresh bits before they end up in a polished hour or a TV special, so it's a bit more raw and unpredictable than a standard headliner set. Resident MC Alicia Davison keeps the whole thing moving, and the room at the Caroline seats 80, which keeps it feeling like a proper club night rather than a theatre.

That room has a decent track record of hosting people who've gone on to much bigger things. The list of names who've played here reads like a who's who of British stand-up: Rhod Gilbert, Jon Richardson, Josie Long, Richard Herring, Sara Pascoe, Romesh Ranganathan, Joe Wilkinson, Isy Suttie, Katherine Ryan and Josh Widdicombe. It's the kind of place where you might catch someone on their way up, or someone you already know just messing about with new ideas.

Practically, it's easy to fit in. Every show starts at 16:00 and finishes by 18:30, so you're in and out in a couple and a half hours.
