Live stand-up comedy performance by Elliot Steel, a Croydon comedian known for his viral Comedy Store clip and Radio 1 Comedy Lounge appearances.
Elliot Steel is playing The Caroline of Brunswick Pub on Tuesday 3 November, and it's a warm-up for his second live special, which he records in London later that same week. If you've never come across him, he's a Croydon stand-up who's been around the London circuit for a while now. He first made a name for himself when a clip from The Comedy Store went viral, racking up more than two million views, and he's since been a regular at the Comedy Store as a Comedy Central star and a face at the Radio 1 Comedy Lounge.
He's not new to the festival circuit either. Back in 2014, he was runner-up in the final of the So You Think You're Funny competition at the Edinburgh Festival, and he made his Edinburgh solo debut in 2016 with Netflix 'n' Steel. Since then, he's played Latitude, V and Reading Festivals, and that debut show earned a nomination at Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival. Critics usually point to his easy, laid-back style and his storytelling.
The venue describes him as an 'evolving-geezer' whose act runs from right-up-to-the-minute topical takes to the more personal struggles of a difficult year. Because this is a warm-up for the special he's recording in London a few days later, you're seeing the material as it's being worked over before it gets fixed in place. It's one of those nights where you get to hear the set in a smaller room before it's recorded for a wider audience.
