Local artist Kitty McCurdy paints live from The Grand Brighton during Sunday afternoon tea, offering a creative and relaxing experience.
Kitty McCurdy will be painting live at The Grand Brighton on Sunday 27 September, as part of Sundays on Canvas. It's a free experience, so you can watch her work without needing a ticket — you just need to be in the building.
McCurdy is a local artist, and she'll be painting throughout the afternoon while the hotel serves its Sunday afternoon tea. The whole thing takes place in the Victoria Terrace & Lounge, which looks out over the sea, so you've got the view on one side and the canvas on the other. It's a slow-paced way to spend a Sunday: watching a painting come together in real time while you eat.
If you do decide to sit down for the tea, it's served daily from 12pm to 4pm, and it's been voted 'Brighton's Best Afternoon Tea' for three years running. Executive Head Chef Neil designed it to arrive across three tiers of sweet and savoury delights, with a choice of tea from the hotel's bespoke selection and an extra slice of cake to finish. There are traditional, vegan and gluten-free selections available, so it works if you're coming with a group that doesn't all eat the same thing.

The tea starts from £40 per person, and you can upgrade to a Celebration Afternoon Tea with a glass of Pommery Brut Royal Champagne for £55. Since the painting is free, you can either just pop in to watch McCurdy work or make a proper afternoon of it with the tea. The Grand is at 97-99 King's Road, BN1 2FW.
