Stonks play The Rossi Bar on Friday 20 November, brought to Brighton by New Cross Live. They're a four-piece from Brussels who formed in 2021, and they're the only act on the bill.
If you're not familiar with them, they describe their sound as a blend of noise rock, jazz and crank-wave, and they talk about it in terms of tension and cinematic melancholy. That's a fair bit of ground to cover in one set: the noise rock brings the volume and the grit, the jazz adds a certain swing and looseness, and the crank-wave—a niche, angular take on post-punk—keeps things jagged. When they talk about cinematic melancholy, they're pointing to the mood that sits underneath it all, the sort of atmospheric, widescreen feeling that holds the louder moments together.
The show is hosted by GDS and the Rossi Bar Artist Investment Scheme, a new platform curated to showcase emerging tastemaker artists from the UK and beyond. It's one of those nights where the focus is entirely on the band, with no support to work through first, so you'll get the full run of them from start to finish.
