Folk singer-songwriter Steve Ashley performs live at The Folklore Rooms, presented by Folklore Sessions.
Steve Ashley plays The Folklore Rooms on Monday 19 July, with support. It's presented by Folklore Sessions, and the night is for over 18s.
Ashley is one of British folk's finest singer-songwriters and a founding member of The Albion Country Band. For half a century he's melded tradition with innovation, delivering intelligent English poetry amid distinctive original melodies. His songs have been covered by a long list of folk artists, including Fairport Convention, Anne Briggs, Ralph McTell, Wizz Jones, Show of Hands, Martin Simpson, Phil Beer, O'Hooley & Tidow and St Agnes Fountain.
His more recent work has held up well. His last solo album, One More Thing, picked up three five-star reviews and a place in Goldmine's Best Albums of 2018, while This Little Game appeared on two UK lists of the best folk albums of 2015, in The Telegraph and Folk Radio. Maurice Rosenbaum of The Daily Telegraph called him a singer-songwriter of true folk quality, and Robin Denselow of The Guardian described him as a thoughtful and elegant singer-songwriter.
