A debut comedy hour by Rushali, navigating life from Mumbai to Amsterdam with Bollywood-inspired flair and wit.
Rushali is bringing her debut comedy hour, Something! Sometime! Someone!, to The Lantern Theatre this May, offering a look into a life path that spans three continents. She describes herself as being "made in India" just like a Mumbai sewer cover, growing up in the middle of the Bollywood film industry before moving to the United States in her twenties. The show tracks her eventual move to Amsterdam, where she now navigates the local comedy scene. It’s a story about cultural identity and the specific, often confusing, hurdles of trying to make a Dutch audience laugh while holding onto her own roots and sense of humour.

The narrative doesn't shy away from the more personal or absurd details of her family life and heritage. You can expect anecdotes ranging from the etiquette of how to address an Indian aunt—specifically whether it is rude to call one a "peanut-eating pachyderm"—to the lingering influence of her late grandmother, whom she feels might still be controlling her actions from beyond. By blending her Bollywood-inspired wit with the realities of the immigrant experience, Rushali explores what it means to move between such different worlds. The show seems aimed at anyone who appreciates stand-up that leans into cultural observation and the awkwardness of finding your place in a new country.
The run at The Lantern Theatre on St James’s Street is quite extensive, covering every night from 22nd May through to 31st May 2026. Because the timings vary, it’s worth double-checking the clock before heading to Kemptown. The performances on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, and 30th are late-night slots at 23:00, which fits the more mature themes of the show. If you prefer an earlier evening, the 25th starts at 19:00, while the 26th, 27th, 28th, and 31st are scheduled for 21:00. Tickets are priced at approximately £8.00, making it an accessible option for a mid-week or late-weekend outing in Brighton.
