Soft Cell: 'danceteria' Listening Event

Resident Music is hosting a listening event for Soft Cell's new album Danceteria on Tuesday 22 September, from 17:00 to 18:00. It's one of a handful of listening parties taking place at participating record stores ahead of the album's release, and Marc Almond won't be there in person.

Danceteria is announced as Soft Cell's sixth and final studio album, coming out on 25 September via Republic of Music. The title track is a tribute to the late Dave Ball, who finished it just before he passed away, and the record as a whole is described as both a love letter to early-80s New York and a tribute to Ball. Two singles have already come out: 'In Heaven (When I Dance With You)' and the darker electronic track 'The Space Inside', both built from Almond's vocals and Ball's synths. The album follows the Generations Tour, which took Soft Cell, The Human League and Alison Moyet across North America.

There's a bit of a side-story to this one too. Back in 1983, Soft Cell covered Suicide's 'Ghost Rider', a version that often featured guest vocals from JG Thirlwell. That old record has inspired a 2026 collaborative 12" single of new Thirlwell remixes, which sits alongside the new album. So, if you're into the duo's earlier work as much as the new stuff, there's a bit of both to keep track of.

The listening session is on Tuesday 22 September, 17:00 to 18:00, at Resident Music, 28 Kensington Gardens, Brighton, BN1 4AL. Standard tickets are free.
