Ska Sunday

Ska Sunday is back at The North Star on Sunday 30 August, with the music running from 12:00 to 18:00. It's a daytime session that pairs Caribbean food with a day of ska, reggae and world music, so you can roll in for lunch and stay for the afternoon.

On the decks is DJ Bmore Smiley McVowty of Good Music No Dowty, who'll be keeping the feel-good vibe going across the six hours. The music is the main draw, but the food is a big part of it too. The menu leans on Caribbean classics: curry goat, jerk chicken and jerk jackfruit for the mains, and a pineapple upside-down cake with rum Chantilly cream for dessert. If you're coming for the food, you might find yourself staying for the records, and vice versa.

There's something more to the day than just the music and the menu. The whole thing is run by Team Domenica, whose hospitality work supports young people with learning disabilities and autism, giving them the skills and experiences they need to thrive in meaningful employment. So, when you're ordering your jerk chicken or grabbing a drink, it's going back into that.

It's a Sunday afternoon session, so it's an easy one to drop into without having to commit your whole day. The North Star is at 2-3 Pavilion Buildings, Brighton and Hove, BN1 1EE, and the music runs from 12:00 to 18:00 on Sunday 30 August.
