ShortForMania are back at The Yellow Book on Saturday 29 August, with their latest show titled If This Show Doesn't Kill You Then We Will. It's a live improv night that pulls from a few different places at once, rather than sticking to one format. The set mixes short-form and long-form improv with sketch, and whatever else has caught the group's interest that month, so the balance shifts from one show to the next.
Short-form is the part most people recognise from Whose Line Is It Anyway? — quick, game-led scenes built on the fly from audience suggestions. Long-form lets them stretch a single premise into something longer, and the sketch elements bring in a more structured kind of comedy. By running them together, they can jump from a fast-paced game to a longer scene and back again, rather than spending the whole night on one thing.
They describe themselves, tongue-in-cheek, as Brighton's only improv team, and they pitch the result as smart, relevant comedy delivered by 'very lovely strange people'.
