Monologue slam in which performers deliver two to three minute monologues from existing plays, with weekly audience votes for cash prizes.
The Brighton Slamologue is back at The Yellow Book on Wednesday 28 October, with a second night following on Wednesday 25 November. Both run from 19:30 to 21:00.
It's a monologue slam, which is a fairly straightforward setup: performers take turns delivering two to three minute monologues. The material isn't original writing, though; every piece is drawn from an existing play. The organisers have a preference for the quirky and the offbeat, so you're more likely to hear something strange and overlooked than the same old famous speeches we've all heard a dozen times. That's the whole point of the night — digging out the oddities rather than sticking to the classics.
And it's not just the performers who get involved. Each week, selected audience members vote to decide who walks away with the cash prizes, so you're part of the judging as much as you are the crowd. If you've ever wanted to see a room full of people arguing over which two-minute slice of a play hit the mark, this is exactly that.
