Sharon Wanjohi is a queer British-Kenyan comedian whose career includes being a member of the Pleasance Reserve and a finalist for the Funny Women Stage Award. Her comedy often explores topics such as the challenges of home ownership for the younger generation and her own experiences with cartoons. In addition to her live stand-up, Wanjohi has worked as a writer for television series such as 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks' and 'Late Night Lycett'. Her presence in the Brighton comedy scene provides a look at the development of her current material.
Joining her is Em Humble, a writer, director, and performer from the North of England. Humble is recognised for a surrealist style of comedy that has found a large audience online, with her sketches reaching over 350 million views. Her creative work was further supported in 2023 when she received a grant from the BFI Short Film Fund. As this is a work-in-progress show, the evening provides a space for both Wanjohi and Humble to refine their sets in front of a live audience. The Caroline of Brunswick remains a central hub for this type of comedy in Brighton, and this event sits alongside other previews scheduled at the venue throughout the month, such as those by Rob Auton, Bella Hull, Larry Dean, and Olga Koch.
