Live music gig by the collaborative project Shadowman, presented by JOY, at Alphabet in Brighton.
Shadowman play A L P H A B E T on Wednesday 21 October, presented by JOY. It's a live gig by the trio, who've spent the last few months getting their name out there after a fairly quiet start.
If you haven't come across them yet, Shadowman is a collaborative project between artist John J Presley, producer Ben Hillier and broadcaster Danielle Perry. They played their live debut this June with two sold-out shows in London and Paris, and then put out their self-titled debut album on 4 September via Nica Records/Republic of Music. The record pulls from a wide range of influences — crushing guitars and New Orleans brass sit alongside motorik drum machines and classical piano — and it was recorded with engineer Dan Crook at Agricultural Audio, Hillier's studio in rural Sussex.
There's a good bit of experience behind the project. Ben Hillier is a producer and mixer with over 30 years' experience, having worked with Depeche Mode, Blur, Elbow, Doves, Graham Coxon and Howling Bells; he also co-founded Miloco's 'The Pool' studio in Bermondsey. Danielle Perry is a national radio broadcaster and sits on the Mercury Music Prize panel. And John J Presley's work has picked up support from BBC 6 Music and Rolling Stone France, and earned a Best Rock Album nomination across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
