Highly explosive and hilarious family science show featuring TV Gastronaut Stefan Gates, aimed at inspiring children aged 6+ with complex biology, physics, and chemistry.
If you’re looking for something genuinely different to do with the kids during the February half-term, mark your calendar for a visit to the Brighton Dome. On Thursday, February 19, 2026, the Concert Hall will host Rude Science Live with Stefan Gates. Gates, known widely as the 'BBC Gastronaut' for his 20 television series and 12 STEM books, specializes in making complex biology, physics, and chemistry accessible. His method is certainly unconventional; the show is described as highly explosive, scandalous, and hilariously disgusting, aiming to inspire a lasting fascination with science through sheer educational hilarity.

This isn't your average school assembly science demonstration. The 2026 version of the show promises new experiments, featuring elements like huge bottoms, fart machines, snot cocktails, giant whoopee cushions, and even urine-powered fireworks. If that wasn't enough, expect manikins that ooze earwax. While the content is certainly cheeky, it’s designed for families, specifically recommended for children aged 5 or 6 and up. Since the event is only running for one day, there are two chances to catch it at the Dome: one performance at 11:30 a.m. and a second one later in the afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Just a heads-up for parents: the demonstrations may include loud noises, audience participation, latex balloons, and stage fog. Also, standard venue rules apply: anyone under 14 needs to be accompanied by an adult. If you decide this brand of educational chaos is right for your family, tickets are available now. For the Brighton Dome performance, prices are set at £16.50 for under 18s and £18.50 for adults. There is also a Family 4-pack option available for £62. It looks like a solid option for anyone wanting to inject some genuine, if slightly gross, fun into the mid-February break, all while getting a dose of award-winning science communication.
