Talented young musicians from Roedean School perform solos with an orchestra, featuring a diverse classical repertoire and choral works.
If you are looking for something a bit different to do on the evening of May 1st, the Roedean School is hosting its Roedean Festival Fringe Concert 2026. It is part of the wider Brighton Fringe programme and focuses on showcasing the school's young musicians. The format is quite straightforward: students will be performing various solo pieces accompanied by an orchestra. It is scheduled to last 90 minutes, and that time includes an interval, which is always helpful for a bit of a break.

The programme itself is fairly varied, covering a mix of classical repertoire and choral works. For the solo performances, you can expect to hear movements from Elgar’s Cello Concerto, the Sibelius Violin Concerto, and Glière’s Harp Concerto. They are also performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2, along with vocal pieces like Dvořák’s 'Song to the Moon', Massenet’s 'Va! laisse couler mes larmes', and Waxman’s 'Carmen Fantasy'. Later in the concert, the Roedean Choir, joined by staff and community musicians, will perform choral arrangements including Elgar’s 'The Snow', Ešenvalds’ 'Stars', Grieg’s 'Spring', and Whitacre’s 'Cloudburst'.
Regarding the practical side of things, the concert starts at 19:00. Tickets are priced at ÂŁ5 for standard entry and ÂŁ2 for concessions. There is a 'Babes in Arms' policy in place, meaning children under two can attend for free if they sit on a guardian's lap, and the event is listed as suitable for all ages (0+). The venue is accessible, with facilities for wheelchair users and access for assistance dogs. Just a heads-up if you are sensitive to sound: the organisers have included a content warning for loud noises, so keep that in mind when planning your evening.
