Interactive jewellery-making workshop to create your own ring using wax carving and silver techniques.
If you've ever wanted to make your own jewellery but didn't know where to start, Brighton has a couple of ring-making workshops running this summer that take you through the whole process from scratch. Both are aimed at beginners, so you don't need any prior experience to turn up and walk away with something you actually made yourself.
Posh Totty Designs is running theirs on Thursdays and Fridays from 2 July right through to 21 August, based at 31 Sydney Street (BN1 4EP). The studio was set up by Alice Rivers Cripps, and the sessions focus on wax carving: you carve your ring out of wax first, and that's then cast in sterling silver. It's a great way to get the shape exactly how you want it before it ever touches metal, and since it runs so often over the summer, it's easy to slot in around your other plans. The cost is £99.
Rare Thing takes a different approach over in the South Lanes, at East Street Arcade (BN1 1HR). Their workshops run on 12 July, 26 July, 9 August, and 23 August, and they work with recycled silver. Instead of carving wax, you'll learn the traditional silversmithing basics: designing, piercing, forming, and soldering. It's a bit more of a hands-on look at how jewellery is actually put together, and you'll leave with a handmade ring you've crafted from the metal itself. That one is £95.

Both are set up as beginner-friendly sessions and include all the materials you'll need, so you just have to show up. Whether you're thinking of a creative date, a catch-up with friends, or just something to do on a day off, there are plenty of dates to choose from across the summer. Posh Totty Designs is £99 and Rare Thing is £95.
