Randy Feltface is back at Komedia on Wednesday 5 August, and this time he's bringing a work in progress. The night is a live reading of Human Handbook, which is a four-part nature documentary series about humans, told from the perspective of a non-human. If you've caught him before, you'll know that's exactly where the joke sits: a puppet observing us with the same detached, slightly baffled curiosity a naturalist might bring to a colony of ants.
It's a new project, and this is a live reading, so you're getting a look at it while it's still being worked on. The whole thing is built around that non-human point of view, turning the ordinary things we do into something strange and worth documenting. It's a bit of a shift from his previous work, Destruction Manual, and it's the show that's taking him back to Radio 4.
For those who haven't come across him yet, Randy Feltface is a one-off: a puppet who performs as a character in his own right, and the whole act leans into that. He's known for that distinct style, and Human Handbook continues it, just with a new subject to pick apart. The four-part structure of the series means there's a bit of a journey to it, rather than just a collection of sketches.
