Poets' Palace

Poets returns to Daltons on Wednesday 16 September, a fundraising night for the Brighton Women's Equinox Service. It's a spoken word and music evening by the sea, built around an open-mic format that puts emerging acts and first-timers on the same bill as the headline performers. The open-mic winner gets a paid feature slot at the next event, so there's a genuine incentive for people to bring their best new work.

On the music side, the night pulls together jazz, neo-soul and Shakti jazz, with the spoken word taking centre stage. The mix of styles means you'll hear a fair bit of variety across the bill, and the open-mic element keeps things unpredictable — you're as likely to catch someone's first time on stage as you are a seasoned performer. The whole thing is hosted by Emma Bean, the venue's regional producer.

Daltons is tucked under the Brighton Zip on the Lower Promenade, so it's right by the water. The night starts at 19:00, and standard tickets are £11.00.
