The setlist will focus on his upcoming LP, Up's The New Down, which is due for release on 10 July 2026. He has already shared a couple of tracks from the record, with Love's Coming Back arriving in November 2025 and Cuckoo following in February 2026. This new material marks a departure from the melancholy that defined some of his earlier work. Instead, he’s moving toward a sound that mixes indie dream pop with distorted guitars, while incorporating elements of pop and electronic music. It’s a shift that aims to bring a different energy to his live performances compared to his previous, more stripped-back or melancholic sets.
Pete Fij has a significant history in the industry. His time with Adorable, signed to Creation Records, and his work with Polak on One Little Independent, established his reputation for a distinct baritone voice and sharp lyrical ability. The Independent once highlighted this, calling him "the most gifted lyricist since Jarvis Cocker". He also gained critical acclaim for his collaborative albums with Terry Bickers, formerly of House of Love. Their work together, including Broken Heart Surgery in 2014 and We Are Millionaires in 2017, showcased a different side of his songwriting and proved his ability to work effectively within a duo format.
The gig takes place at The Green Door Store, located on Trafalgar Street, Brighton, BN1 4FQ. Doors open at 19:30. It is an 18+ event, and the venue operates a challenge 25 policy, so bring ID if you plan on buying alcohol and look under 25. Tickets are priced at £12 in advance, plus booking fees, or £14 on the door on the night.
