If you're not familiar with how they work, the project was started in 2003 by Marc Collin and the late Olivier Libaux. The whole idea is to take well-known songs and rework them as bossa nova, and they've spent the last two decades doing exactly that across a wide range of styles. This new record, though, marks a change in approach: for the first time, they've dedicated an entire album to the songs of a single band. That band is Depeche Mode.
There are thirteen of the group's most recognisable tracks on the record, each one reimagined with new voices. They were recorded in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian musicians, so the bossa nova sound is built in from the start rather than layered on top. The first single is a duet of 'Enjoy the Silence', sung by Skye Edwards of Morcheeba and Larry Love from Alabama 3.
It's a paid event, with tickets at £32.50 plus a £2 venue fee. The night runs from 19:00 to 23:00 at The Old Market, 11A Upper Market St, Brighton and Hove, and it's open to all ages from 14 up, with under-16s needing to come with an adult.
