Spoken word performance by artist myndstate presenting his debut collection Deep Breath, exploring themes of identity, love and survival.
myndstate brings his spoken-word show Deep Breath to Komedia on Friday 15 January, the night he presents his debut collection. It's a poetry slam show, so the whole thing is built around the spoken word rather than a script or a play, and Deep Breath is the collection he's bringing to the stage.
If you haven't come across him before, myndstate is a national poetry slam winner who's appeared on the BBC, Sky and Attitude, with millions of views online. He's known for mixing hard-hitting and vulnerable performances with a fair bit of wit and humour, and the work is full of emotion, narrative and rhyme. The show takes the audience through Deep Breath, and the themes it touches on are sexuality, identity, love and shame. It's about the struggle of finding yourself and your place in a world that often doesn't want you to belong, and the set follows that as a journey of hope and survival.
It's a 16+ show, so it's for an adult crowd, and it'll sit well if you're into poetry, spoken word and performing arts. The night is at Komedia, 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton and Hove, BN1 1UN, in the Komedia Studio, with unreserved seating.
