Mildred

Mildred play The Prince Albert on Sunday 22 November, as part of their Fenceline tour. They're a four-piece from Oakland, California, and this is a standing-only show presented by Love Thy Neighbour.

What sets them apart is how they work. There's no lead singer and no single songwriter; the songs on Fenceline come from all four members wrestling the material together. It's a collaborative way of writing that carries through to the record, which critics called one of the year's most endearing and disarming indie rock records and an outstanding debut. Clash Magazine summed up their sound as 'imagine if Pavement went Americana' — that loose, slacker-rock energy shifted towards something more rooted and open.

Coming from Oakland, they bring that West Coast indie sensibility over to Brighton for the night. The set will be built around Fenceline, the debut album that's been the focus of the tour and the record that earned those early reviews. It's a band that doesn't rely on a single voice or a single writer to carry the weight, so the songs are a shared effort from the start.

The gig runs from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at The Prince Albert, 48 Trafalgar Street, BN1 4ED. Tickets are £13, it's standing only, and it's for over-18s.
