Cardiff-based five-piece band Midding performs their blend of psych, noise-rock, and industrial-pop live at The Prince Albert.
There’s a gig coming up in March that might be worth checking out if you’re into sounds that push boundaries. We’re talking about Midding, a five-piece band hailing from Cardiff, who are scheduled to play at The Prince Albert on Trafalgar Street. Their music is often described as sitting somewhere between psych, noise-rock, and industrial-pop, suggesting a blend of expansive textures and raw energy.

The band’s foundation started with singer and guitarist Joe Woodward, who initially wrote and recorded songs solo in his kitchen using a 4-track recorder. He later teamed up with Elliot Roberts and Cam Wheeler, experimenting with cassette recordings, aiming for a DIY take on symphonic sounds. The current lineup is rounded out by guitarist Eli Allison and drummer Nia Abraham, whose live percussion apparently adds a more physical quality to their sound. When you listen to them, expect expansive tremolo guitars, a rhythm section that’s described as deliberately primordial, and a contrasting vocal performance that manages to be both melodic and vulnerable. They’ve been busy recently, having released their debut EP, Nowhere Near Today, and another collection of five songs titled .44. Interestingly, their recording process for these tracks involved a mix of home practices and using a studio installation in a disused shopping centre basement, facilitated by a local artists' collective called SHIFT. This setup allowed them the creative freedom to really play around with cassette recording techniques alongside their live sound.
If you plan on going, the main date listed for the performance at The Prince Albert (48 Trafalgar Street, BN1 4ED) is Wednesday, March 25, 2026. It’s worth noting that one source mentions a conflicting date of February 25, 2026, but most ticket sites confirm the March date. Doors are set to open at 8:00 PM (20:00), with the event wrapping up around 11:00 PM. Since this is a music event, it’s restricted to those aged 18 and over. Tickets are required, and prices seem to hover just under £12, listed specifically as £11.55 or £11.81 depending on where you look.
