Macka B & The Roots Ragga Band

Macka B & The Roots Ragga Band play Chalk on Friday 4 September, presented by Horizon Promotions. They're joined by Royal Dub Collective, so it's a double bill of reggae and dub on the same night.

Macka B is a British-Jamaican reggae artist, toaster and activist, known for conscious, socially aware lyrics and his Rastafarian faith. He's a long-standing figure in the UK dancehall scene, and his work has reached far beyond it — he became a global internet sensation through his viral 'Medical Mondays' and 'Cucumba' vegan rap videos, which brought his message to an audience well outside the reggae world. He'll be performing with The Roots Ragga Band.

Opening the night is Royal Dub Collective, a UK-based project that blends roots reggae, ska, dub, hip-hop and electronica. They describe themselves as an uplifting project, known for high-energy live performances and conscious songwriting, and they've become a regular at festivals and live venues across the UK. Between the two acts, you've got a full evening of roots and ragga, from Macka B's toaster style to the collective's mix of dub and electronic elements.

Doors open at 19:00 and the night runs until 22:00, so it's a relatively early one. Early bird tickets are £15, and advance tickets are £17.50, with no booking fees. The night is for ages 14 and over.
