Northern soul night with all vinyl on the dance floor at the Grand Central Pub.
Lewes Northern Soul Club brings its Winter Warmer to the Grand Central Pub on Sunday 10 January, starting at 16:00. It's an afternoon session, so it kicks off while it's still light out and runs into the evening, which is a handy way to do a soul night without having to stay up until the early hours.
The whole thing is built around Northern Soul, that fast, dancefloor-focused sound that grew out of the American R&B and soul records that became cult hits in the UK. If you're not familiar, it's the kind of music that's meant for dancing rather than sitting back and listening, and this night is set up exactly for that.
The one thing that really defines the club is that it's all vinyl on the dance floor. There are no digital playlists or CDs here; every track comes from a record, played by a DJ who's working through a physical collection. It's a proper vinyl night, and that's the main draw for anyone who likes the sound of a needle in a groove.
