L'entourloop are playing Chalk on Saturday 15 August, part of their return to the UK this summer. They're a French musical collective run by King James and Sir Johnny, and they've built their name on blending reggae, hip-hop and sound system culture. It's a sound that pulls from a few different places at once: vintage samples, cinematic references and energetic beats, with dub running through it all and collaborations with international artists mixed in. If you're into reggae, hip-hop and dancehall, that's exactly the territory they work in.
This is one of two UK dates they're playing this summer, with a show in Leeds alongside the Brighton one. They'll be joined on stage by MC Troy Berkley, who adds the live vocal element to the set. The whole thing is built around the sound system tradition — mixing and performing live rather than just playing back a recording — so it's as much a DJ set as a gig.

Chalk is at 13 Pool Valley, BN1 1NJ, and the show starts at 18:00. Tickets are £33.75 for a standard entry, sold online. It's a 14+ event, with 18+ also listed, so it's open to a fairly broad crowd.
