A night of music from the fictional UK garage collective Kurupt FM, based on the BBC mockumentary People Just Do Nothing.
Kurupt FM are playing Chalk on Wednesday 2 December, one of their UK headline dates this winter. If the name doesn't ring a bell, you'll likely know the show they come from: People Just Do Nothing, the BBC mockumentary that first aired in 2014. It's built around a fictional West London pirate radio station of the same name, and the crew who run it are the ones taking the stage.
That crew is led by MC Grindah and DJ Beats, with Chabuddy, Steves and DJs Decoy and Fantasy rounding out the line-up. On the decks, they play UK garage, drum and bass and jungle. The show itself picked up a BAFTA and a Royal Television Society award for Best Scripted Comedy, and in March 2017 the gang appeared alongside Ed Sheeran in a Comic Relief spoof music video. The actors tour in character, and they've played clubs and festivals including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds.
They've put out music as well as the show. Their 2021 album The Greatest Hits (Part 1) featured Craig David and Big Narstie, and this August brought the EP GDWDMA, which is what these December dates are supporting. So the set will draw on the new material alongside the garage and jungle they've been known for since the early days.
