Folk music session featuring Keiron Phelan & Peace Signs, The Golden Samphire Band and David Coomber at The Folklore Rooms.
Keiron Phelan & Peace Signs are playing The Folklore Rooms on Thursday 27 August, with The Golden Samphire Band and David Coomber on the bill. It's a triple bill of folk and singer-songwriter sets, so you'll get three distinct acts in one night rather than one band taking up the whole slot.

Keiron Phelan & Peace Signs are the main feature, and the set is built around their upcoming fifth album, Hullabaloo, out on Gare du Nord Records. They describe the sound as baroque chamber pop from the early 1970s, and the influences they cite give you a good sense of where it sits: Kevin Ayers, Lou Reed, Super Furry Animals, and Neil Hannon. It's a mix of the melodic and the slightly eccentric, with the chamber pop side pulling in those baroque arrangements and the Lou Reed influence bringing a bit of art-rock grit.
Opening the night are The Golden Samphire Band, an acoustic singing trio made up of Hannah Lewis and the Hanscomb brothers, Mik and Rich, who also play in Junkboy. They describe their music as being influenced by the Sussex landscape, so expect something that feels rooted in the local countryside. David Coomber plays solo, bringing melodic songs that pull from folk, blues, and soul.
Between the three, the evening covers a fair bit of ground: the baroque pop of Phelan & Peace Signs, the acoustic harmonies of The Golden Samphire Band, and Coomber's folk-blues-soul. It's a night for anyone who likes their music sung and played live, with a lean towards the folk end of things. The Folklore Rooms is at 12 North Street, BN1 3GJ, and the music starts at 19:30. Tickets are £8.
