Katie Gregson-MacLeod

Katie Gregson-MacLeod plays The Folklore Rooms on Wednesday 26 August, with Bonnie Kemplay opening the night. It's a singer-songwriter set from a Scottish Highlands artist whose work sits at the intersection of personal lyricism and folk-influenced sound.

Gregson-MacLeod grew up singing alongside her pianist mother and was drawn to musicals, while her father's habit of writing novels daily instilled in her a love of language and storytelling. She discovered folk in her late teens, alongside the Motown and soul records of her late grandfather, and cites Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Elliott Smith as influences. She began busking in Inverness and self-released the lo-fi EP Games I Play at 18.

A viral TikTok breakout with the single 'complex' in 2022 brought international recognition, a major label deal, an Ivor Novello nomination and numerous festival appearances. After parting with the major label in early 2024, she signed to Matt Maltese's Last Recordings on Earth and released a raw, intimate EP.
