A long-form ambient film and live music work by Julian Deane and Woodchester Piano Company, blending documentary, meditation and immersive soundscapes.
Julian Deane brings The Plough to The Old Market on Monday 7 September, performed alongside the Woodchester Piano Company. It's a long-form ambient film and live music work, put together during a period of recovery and creative reset, and it's being shown as part of the venue's 'Feel Good' festival of immersive music and storytelling events.
The Plough follows a drifting journey through Sussex landscapes, ancient landmarks, roadside moments and open skies — part documentary, part meditation, part moving sketchbook. Deane shot the film himself, and he performs the soundtrack live to it, with the music unfolding slowly across piano, guitar, synths and immersive ambient textures. The idea is that the room itself becomes part of the experience, and the work sits somewhere between concert, cinema and installation. It's built around slowness, landscape and attention, and it's described as a temporary pause from the pace and noise of everyday life — a space where you can sit, lie down, wander, reflect or just spend time inside the work.
That last bit is worth noting for how you'll be watching it: seating is on beanbags and chairs in In The Box, so it's more of a lounge than a traditional cinema or concert hall. The evening is recommended for ages 14 and over.
