On Wednesday, 1 July 2026, the venue is hosting an event titled 'In Conversation: Candice Carty Williams', organised in collaboration with Afrori Books. It is a chance to hear the author discuss her writing process and the themes she explores in her work, specifically regarding the representation of Black womanhood.

This event coincides with the release of her new book, Queenie is Working on It, which officially launches on 2 July 2026. Attendees will have the opportunity to get early access to the book during the evening. Candice Carty-Williams, who made history as the first Black woman to win the 'Book and Author of the Year' at the National Book Awards, will be speaking about her career trajectory and her decision to revisit the character of Queenie for this new project.
The talk takes place in the Studio at Komedia, located at 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton, BN1 1UN. Doors open at 19:00, and the event itself starts at 19:30. Tickets are priced at £10.00. The seating is unreserved, so it is worth keeping that in mind if you are planning to attend with a group. The event is open to anyone aged 14 and over, though please note that those under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
