A joyful variety spectacular featuring the band Hyperreal, their Black Gospel Soul Choir, and magician David Stewart, blending music, comedy, and illusion.
Hyperreal are playing Patterns on Sunday 18 October, their biggest and most ambitious show to date. It follows a sold-out Brighton headline date and a UK tour that also sold out across several cities, so this is a return to the city after a run of packed rooms. The night is set up as a variety spectacular, with music, comedy, illusion and theatre sharing the same stage.
Hyperreal lead the bill, backed by The Hyperreal Black Gospel Choir. They describe their sound as a fusion of futuristic SynthPop, Shoegaze guitars, DreamPop and Cosmic Lush Synths, with the gospel choir lifting the whole thing. It's a bold mix — synthpop and shoegaze on one side, a Black gospel soul choir on the other — and the two are meant to work together rather than sit side by side. The choir is a central part of the sound, not just a guest appearance.
They aren't the only act on the bill. Illusionist and magician David Stewart takes a turn, and compères Pearl & Dean hold the evening together. Between the music, the magic and the hosting, the night moves through different acts rather than sticking to a single set, and the whole thing is billed as a joyful, colourful affair. It's a variety show in the old-school sense, with different disciplines on the same bill.
