Concert by reggae legend Horace Andy and his band Dub Ashante Band at the Chalk in Brighton.
Horace Andy is playing Chalk on Thursday 10 December, backed by the Dub Ashante Band. It's a reggae night with one of the most distinct voices in the genre's history taking the lead.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the context helps: Andy is one of the most respected and influential singers to come out of Jamaica, and he's been at it for more than five decades. That's a long stretch of singing, and the thing that stands out about his voice is how little it's changed over the years — it's remained remarkably untainted by time, keeping that same singular tone it had when he first started. He's a legendary figure in reggae, and this is a chance to hear him live in Brighton.
He won't be on his own, though. He's performing with the Dub Ashante Band, so you'll have a full band behind him rather than just a backing track or a stripped-back set. Between Andy's voice and the band, it's a proper reggae show.
