London-based singer-songwriter Henry Grace performs live on his Things Are Moving All Around Me UK tour at The Folklore Rooms.
Henry Grace plays The Folklore Rooms on Sunday 4 October, as part of the UK tour for his second album, Things Are Moving All Around Me. It's a return to a room he knows well: he first played here during the crowdfunding campaign for his earlier record, and this date brings him back to the same spot.
Grace is a London-based singer-songwriter working in contemporary Americana, and the names he cites as influences — Bruce Springsteen, Bon Iver, The National and The Lumineers — give a good sense of where he sits. Things Are Moving All Around Me was co-produced by Blaine Harrison of Mystery Jets, and it marks a shift from his earlier solo work towards a fuller band sound, a change he traces to his time spent moving between California and London. It follows his debut, Alive in America, which he recorded live at Rockfield Studios and used to write about his personal battles with depression and his move from the UK to the US; he's also a passionate mental health advocate.
The Folklore Rooms is tucked away above The Quadrant Pub at 12 North Street, with a capacity of 60 to 70, billed as Brighton's premier spot for close-up live music. That's the kind of room where you can see everything that's happening on stage, and Grace's history with the venue means this isn't his first time playing here. The set is part of the UK tour for the new album, so you'll hear the newer material alongside the older songs.
