The eight-time Tony and four-time Olivier Award-winning musical Hairspray, following Tracy Turnblad's journey to bring racial integration to 'The Corny Collins Show'.
Hairspray is coming to the Theatre Royal from 15 to 20 November 2027. It's a touring production that first launched at Leicester Curve in 2015, and it's based on John Waters' 1988 feature film.
The story follows Tracy Turnblad, a curvy teenager who auditions for The Corny Collins Show and works to bring racial integration to the popular variety show. It's a dance musical through and through, and it's well known for its catchy songs โ You Can't Stop The Beat, I Can Hear The Bells and Good Morning Baltimore are the ones most people recognise.
Behind the scenes, the music and lyrics are by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, with a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. This particular production is directed by Paul Kerryson and Brenda Edwards, and it marks Edwards' directorial debut. The choreography is by Drew McOnie, and it's produced by Mark Goucher, Matthew Gale and Laurence Myers. The show itself has picked up eight Tony Awards and four Olivier Awards over the years.
