An 80-minute guided walking tour visiting eight haunted sites in Brighton's historic Lanes, featuring Victorian-style storytelling of murders and poltergeists.
The 2026 season for the Ghost Walk of The Lanes officially started on 7th February, returning to its usual routine of four nights a week. If you happen to be around Brighton Place between Wednesday and Saturday, you’ll see the group gathering outside The Druid’s Head pub at 19:30. This tour has been a fixture in the city since 2008, led by a small team of actors and storytellers including Rob Marks, Andrew Allen, and Marielle Holman. They take on specific personas like 'Silas', 'Ebenezer', or 'Jasper', and they’re easy to spot in the crowd thanks to their traditional Victorian attire, complete with full-length black capes and top hats.

Over the course of about 70 to 80 minutes, the walk covers eight different haunted sites tucked away in the narrow alleyways of the historic district. The route includes well-known spots like The Black Lion and the Old Town Hall, as well as the more secluded Ship Street Gardens. The narrative focuses on a combination of documented poltergeist activity, local murders, and the city’s historical links to the Jack the Ripper case. Because the guides come from acting backgrounds, the delivery is quite theatrical, blending the darker elements of Brighton’s history with a bit of dry humour. It’s a fairly relaxed way to learn about the local folklore while walking through the parts of town that usually feel quite different once the shops have closed.
In terms of the practical side, the tour is designed to be accessible for everyone, including wheelchair users, and it’s a dog-friendly activity if you have a guide dog with you. There’s no requirement to book ahead for these public walks; you can simply arrive at the meeting point and join in. For this year, the pricing is set at £12 for adults, £10 for those over 65, and £8 for students and under-16s. They also offer a family ticket for £32. It’s a consistent option for an evening out that doesn't require much coordination, making it easy to fit into a night out in the centre of town, especially since it wraps up in just over an hour.
