Fundraising Evening Of Poetry

New Venture Theatre is hosting a fundraising evening of poetry on Saturday 26 September, with a line-up of seven voices from its own membership taking the stage. It's billed as a relaxed and intimate night, and it's run by the theatre itself rather than an outside company.

The evening is split into two acts, and the voices you'll hear are Sheelagh Baker, Jeremy Crow, Sarah Davies, Elaine Larkin, Gerry McCruden, Laura Scoobie and John Tolputt. There's music running throughout, and one of the night's features is an improvised poem written on the spot from audience suggestions, so what comes out depends on what the room throws at it.

It helps to know a bit about the venue here. New Venture Theatre is run entirely by its members on a voluntary basis, and they don't hire their spaces out to external organisations. They're also a member of the Little Theatre Guild. Because this is a fundraising event, the money goes back into the theatre they run themselves.

One practical thing to keep in mind: the evening may include adult material, so it's not suitable for children. It starts at 19:30 at the theatre in South Hall, Bedford Place, BN1 2PT, and standard tickets are £5.00.
