Group exhibition on research-based art practices centred on photography at Phoenix Art Space, part of the Photo Fringe festival.
Everything is Never Enough opens at Phoenix Art Space on 21 October, running until 25 October. It's a group exhibition that brings together five artists — Holly Birtles, Rachel K Gillies, Fergus Heron, Åsa Johannesson and Martin Seeds — all working with research-based practices centred on photography.
The show is part of Photo Fringe, the UK's most expansive photography festival, which has run every autumn since 2003. This year's edition runs from 2 October to 31 October across Brighton & Hove, Newhaven and Portsmouth, and it's returning to the grassroots values it started with: artist-led participation, experimentation, community connection and self-curated exhibitions. Photographers, artists, collectives and community groups are invited to propose shows in galleries, community venues, cafés, seafront spaces and unexpected sites across the region.
Phoenix Art Space also hosts the festival's Collectives' Hub this year, with the collectives selected by the space's executive director Lucy Day and curator Laurence Hill. That makes the venue a bit of a focal point for the whole festival, so if you're planning to see more than one show, it's a handy place to start.
