A collaborative concert by the New Note Orchestra and the Wham Jam Thank You Ma'am Community Choir, marking the ancient festival of Samhain with haunting harmonies and original arrangements.
New Note Orchestra and the Wham Jam Thank You Ma'am Community Choir are playing together at The Old Market on Friday 23 October, from 19:30 to 21:30, with doors opening at 18:45. The New Note Orchestra draws its musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and for this one they're teaming up with the Wham Jam Thank You Ma'am Community Choir.
The whole evening is built around Samhain, the ancient festival that marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. The set leans into the season's darker side, with haunting harmonies, ethereal vocals and witchy lyrics. The choir adds its own brand of Halloween mischief with original arrangements of songs by The Cure, Florence and the Machine, The Specials, Nick Cave and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
It's a collaboration between a professional orchestra and a community choir, so you'll hear the LPO musicians alongside the Wham Jam voices. The setlist pulls from the darker end of the pop and post-punk songbook, with those names—The Cure, Nick Cave, Siouxsie—giving you a good sense of the mood they're after.

Tickets are ÂŁ14 plus a ÂŁ2 venue levy. Seating is unreserved, so you'll want to get in early if you have a preference for where you sit. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, and the show contains some swearing.
