Concert by Dominic Miller, best known as Sting's longtime guitarist, offering fresh, jazz-infused reinterpretations of Sting and Police classics alongside his own catalogue.
Dominic Miller plays The Old Market on Sunday 27 September, from 19:00 to 22:00. Most people know him as Sting's right-hand man and the co-writer of 'Shape of My Heart'. He's played on every Sting album since 1991's The Soul Cages and has performed thousands of concerts with the former Police frontman.
That's only one part of the picture, though. His other credits run through the British and international songbooks, from Phil Collins and Paul Simon to Peter Gabriel, Tina Turner and Nigel Kennedy. He's also a prolific solo artist with twelve albums of his own, including Vagabond on ECM Records, which blends jazz, pop, acoustic folk, contemporary classical and Latin elements. Critics have pointed to his searing electric fretwork as well as his crystalline acoustic chords, and his ability to cover just about any guitar style.
On this show, he's working with a full band: Nicolas Fiszman on bass, Ziv Ravitz on drums and Mike Lindup on piano and keyboards. The set brings together jazz-infused reinterpretations of Sting and Police classics like 'Fields of Gold' alongside fan favourites from his own catalogue. It's a good way to hear both sides of his career in one night — the songs he's known for from the Sting years and the solo work he's built around them.
