Headline gig by British alt-rock band Dinosaur Pile-Up at the Chalk in Brighton.
Dinosaur Pile-Up play Chalk on Friday 16 April, their first Brighton date since their last UK tour. They're a British alt-rock band led by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Bigland, whose riffy, grunge-inspired sound has earned comparisons to Nirvana and Foo Fighters. It's a sound built on heavy guitar work, and they've spent the last decade and a half refining it across five albums.
They first made a name for themselves with two well-received, hard-rocking records: 2010's Growing Pains and its 2013 follow-up Nature Nurture. While the on-stage personnel has shifted over the years, Bigland plays many of the instruments on their recordings himself. By 2014 the lineup settled around ex-Brownies drummer Mike Sheils and Bigland's longtime friend and former Tribes bassist Jim Cratchley, who appeared on later records such as their 2019 Parlophone debut Celebrity Mansions.
The band returned from a brief hiatus following Bigland's health struggles, and their fifth album, I've Felt Better, came out in August 2025. Since then they've been back on the road, playing a sold-out UK headline tour and touring the US alongside A Day To Remember, with appearances at Warped Tour and festival sets at Rock For People, Download Festival 2026 and 2000 Trees 2026. This Brighton date sits on the other side of that run.
