Experience the 24-hour wonder of a coral reef in the UK's first Day & Night display at SEA LIFE Brighton, suitable for families.
If you’re looking for something different to do in the city, especially now that the weather is unpredictable, it’s worth checking out the latest addition at SEA LIFE Brighton. We all know the building—it’s the iconic structure opposite the pier, and it holds the title of the oldest operating aquarium in the world, having been built way back in 1872. Their big new feature is the Day & Night exhibit, which they confirm is the first of its kind in the UK. It’s designed to give visitors a full 24-hour experience of a coral reef as it transitions from day to night, all housed within an impressive 750,000-liter display.

The experience focuses heavily on immersion. You can explore deep caves, travel through an underwater tunnel, and check out a new floor-to-ceiling viewing window specifically for watching the Sharks, Rays, and Tropical Fish. They also mention a tropical shore area that uses bio-fluorescence. For those who remember them, the beloved Green Sea Turtles, Lulu and Gulliver, have returned and are part of this new display. Beyond the Day & Night feature, the aquarium is home to around 5,500 creatures in total, including Terrapines, Starfish, Caballitos de Mar, and even an Anaconda. A typical visit usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, and your ticket is valid for the entire day.
Since this is a paid attraction, it’s good to know the general costs. Entry prices start from £19.00 for adults and £16 for children, with kids under 2 getting in free. It’s important to remember that these prices are just a guide and can change daily, so booking online is usually the safest bet. If you want to enhance the trip, there is an optional 'Glass Bottom Boat Experience' available for a small extra charge, but if you add this, make sure to reserve the boat time at least 30 minutes after your main entry slot.
In terms of logistics, the aquarium is open all year, with the exception of December 25th. They open their doors starting at 10 am, but the closing times vary, so checking the official website for the specific day you plan to visit is recommended. The venue is classified as family-friendly and is well-equipped for groups, offering facilities like high chairs and baby changing areas. Accessibility is also well-covered, with disabled parking, accessible toilets, and level access throughout most of the venue (the only exception being the auditorium). Guide dogs are permitted, and they have induction loops available in the admission area.
